noumea, new caledonia
Arrival: 14:00 - Departure: 21:00
Nouméa is the capital and largest city of the French special collectivity of New Caledonia. It is located on a peninsula in the south of New Caledonia’s main island, Grande Terre, and is home to most of the island’s European, Polynesian (Wallisian, Futunian, Tahitian), Indonesian and Vietnamese communities, as well as many Melanesian, Ni‑Vanuatu and Kanak people who work in one of the South Pacific’s most industrialised cities. The city sits on a protected deep‑water harbour that serves as New Caledonia’s main port. At the August 2014 census, the metropolitan area of Greater Nouméa (French: agglomération du Grand Nouméa) had 179,509 inhabitants, 99,926 of whom lived in the city (commune) of Nouméa itself. 66.8% of New Caledonia’s population live in Greater Nouméa, which includes the communes of Nouméa, Le Mont-Dore, Dumbéa and Païta.

Day 4
lifou, loyalty island
Arrival: 09:00 - Departure: 17:00
Lifou Island – known locally as Drehu – is the largest, most populated and most significant of the Loyalty Islands (Loyalty Islands Province), in the New Caledonia archipelago, a French overseas territory in the Pacific Ocean. First recorded by the French explorer Dumont d’Urville in 1857, it was soon frequented by whalers and traders, and later became a focus for Protestant and Catholic missionaries intent on converting the local population. In 1864, the islands were annexed by France and Lifou was designated an Aboriginal Reserve, as the territory was not considered suitable for large‑scale colonisation. The Indigenous people of the islands are known as Kanak, and the local language on Lifou is Drehu. The population is descended from both Melanesian and Polynesian peoples. Across the three Loyalty Islands there are 19 distinct tribes, six of which are found on Lifou. The current traditional high chief of Lifou is Evanes Boula, who became chief of 13 of the tribes across the three islands on 13 June 1999, succeeding Henri Boula.

Day 5
mystery island - vanuatu
Arrival: 08:00 - Departure: 17:00
Inyeug Island is a small, uninhabited island in Tafea Province, Vanuatu, in the Pacific Ocean. “Inyeug” means “Small Island” in a local language. Inyeug is also known as Mystery Island by the cruise ships that regularly visit. The island covers about 15.9 hectares and lies only 1 km south of Aneityum Island. Inyeug is bordered to the west and south by the coral Intao Reef, which stretches further south and, although submerged, marks the southernmost point of Vanuatu. The island contains the airport serving the nearby inhabited Aneityum Island. The airport is essentially a grass airstrip, with small planes flying in twice a week from Port Vila via Tanna Island.
