Departure: 16:00
Little San Salvador Island, also known as Half Moon Cay, is a beautifully unspoilt spot in the Bahamas, ideal for a laid‑back tropical getaway. This private island, owned by Holland America Line and located about 100 miles southeast of Nassau, is famous for its natural beauty, clear turquoise water and powder‑soft white sand beaches. Whether you’re after pure relaxation or a bit of adventure, Half Moon Cay offers a memorable experience for every kind of traveller.
The island’s main draw is its crescent‑shaped Half Moon Beach, where you can stretch out under gently swaying palm trees, swim in crystal‑clear water, or try your hand at a variety of watersports. Snorkellers can explore a lively underwater world full of colourful marine life just off the shore. If you’re in the mood for something more active, you can go kayaking, stand‑up paddleboarding, or even enjoy a horseback ride along the beach and into the shallows.
Nature lovers will appreciate the island’s strong focus on protecting its environment. Half Moon Cay hosts an important bird sanctuary, providing a safe haven for a range of species, including the Bahama Mockingbird and the White‑crowned Pigeon. Guided nature walks give visitors the chance to discover the island’s rich plant and animal life while hearing about its ecological importance.

Day 6
bimini, bahamas
Arrival: 07:00
-
Departure: 13:00
Bimini is the westernmost district of the Bahamas, made up of a chain of islands about 80 kilometres due east of Miami. It’s the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States, lying roughly 210 kilometres west‑northwest of Nassau. As of the 2010 census, the population is 1,988.
Bimini has three islands: North Bimini, South Bimini and East Bimini. The largest are North and South Bimini. The main settlement is Alice Town, a cluster of shops, restaurants and bars along a road known as the King’s Highway. A second main road, Queen’s Highway, runs almost the length of the island parallel to King’s Highway.
South Bimini has an airstrip, South Bimini Airport, and offers a quieter alternative to the gentle bustle of North Bimini. There’s a small residential community on South Bimini called Port Royale. For many years, visitors to South Bimini were mostly boaters, as there were few places to stay apart from private homes.
Because Bimini is close to Miami, Florida, many American anglers come over by boat to fish or enjoy the local nightlife. Scuba diving and snorkelling are also popular, with many shipwrecks in the area, including the wreck of the SS Sapona, which ran aground during a hurricane in 1926. The top of the ship remains above water while the lower half is submerged. Parts of the wreck have been salvaged over the years, and some of the timber was used in building the Compleat Angler Hotel and bar on North Bimini.
