Koh Lanta is a relaxed island in Thailand’s Krabi province, perfect for travelers looking for a slower-paced, more authentic beach getaway. The destination is actually a small archipelago, but most visitors stay on Koh Lanta Yai, where places to stay range from simple bamboo bungalows to stylish boutique hotels. Koh Lanta is also known for its cultural diversity, home to Thai Buddhists, Thai Muslims, and the sea-dwelling Urak Lawoi people. On the east coast, Lanta Old Town preserves the island’s maritime heritage with wooden stilt houses, small temples, and laid-back cafés overlooking the water. Evenings tend to be easygoing rather than wild, with seafood barbecues, night markets, and live acoustic music. With good roads, easy scooter rentals, and a warm, welcoming local atmosphere, Koh Lanta is an excellent base for couples, families, and solo travelers who want to experience Thailand at a gentler pace.
