Charlotte, NC United States of America

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the country’s second-biggest financial centre, after New York. Once a small Southern town, it’s rapidly growing into a major Southern city. Uptown is Charlotte’s central district and home to its impressive skyline. The view is dominated by modern high‑rise buildings, especially the Wachovia building, the Bank of America building (the tallest), and the Transamerica building. Charlotte isn’t particularly famous for older architecture, but City Hall is one of the more historic buildings. In the square outside, there’s a statue honouring the city’s World War I veterans, standing in sharp contrast to the ultra‑modern skyline behind it. The city is surprisingly diverse and offers all the amenities you’d expect from a large urban centre. It’s also conveniently close to three lakes, which provide every kind of water activity, from fishing and swimming to water‑skiing. Charlotte is a fast‑growing Southern city that still holds on to plenty of traditional Southern charm.
